Domaine Dereskos

Our Vineyards

Our love for nature and for our motherland as well as our strong ties with the traditional wine cultivation of our family were the main reasons we decided to create Domaine Dereskos. Our family vineyards are a part of the southwest zone of Messinia, a traditional wine cultivation zone. Our vineyards in cooperation, where Cabernet, Chardonnay and Merlot have been transplanted and grown with great success, are located in the same area. The farmily’s multivariate vineyards are situated in the Agrilla site, from which we named two wines of our domaine. The territory is semi-mountainous landscape (350 meters above sea level) offers the well-known benefits of altitude on the grape vines as well as of other microclimatic elements revealing the vineyards’ potential in the area.

The Cultivation

Our cultivation methods have not only a distinct quality but also an ecological orientation. With the strict pruning every year we may have a relatively low output per hectare (9000kgr/hectare), but our crop is healthy with concentrated juice from our aromatic grapes. We fertilize the ground only with natural fertilizers such as grape skins, olive tree leaves and manure. We do not use parasite killers because we have faith in the “good old tools” such as shovel and hoe and only in rare cases do we prefer the comfortable solutions that modern tractors can offer.

Our Winery

Our wine factory is settled in the “Agrilia” area, among our vineyards. The factory’s equipment as well as the controlled temperature fermentation and storage tanks are pieces of modern technology. They contribute to the philosophy of the owners in modern wine making technology. Our enologists insist on the use of the most modern techniques starting from the collection of the grapes to the final bottling of the mature wine. The high quality production can be strictly controlled in every phase of the wine process until the final bottling. The production is bottled under azote and is conserved under controlled conditions in our subterranean cellar.
