The history of the winery has its roots back in time, when in 1890 the great-grandfather Athanasios Gotsis settled permanently in the semi-mountainous village of Loi in the Municipality of Messina. He started growing vines and olives with the aim of selling wine and oil in the wine shop – grocery store that he opened and later housed in a stone mansion of 300 sq.m. which he himself built in 1901 – a real jewel for the village. Over the years, the vines and olive groves grew, oak barrels and equipment were added to the stone buildings and the manor acquired splendor culminating in the construction of the olive mill and the first olive oil exports in 1920. Then it passes through the hands of the grandfather and the father until it reaches the hands of the youngest descendant, Nikos Gotsis.
In 1998, fully aware of his family’s history and centuries-old tradition, Nikos Gotsis returns to the village. He decides to revive the mansion and all traditional buildings around it, turning them into a modern winery, taking advantage of the rich wine heritage he was given. From the very first year he invests in vines, creating his own ‘batch’ and enthusiastically begins his first winemaking in his only 4-acre vineyard! Fascinated by the whole process, every year he pushes himself for better results and superior quality. Today his winery produces a total of 70 tons, with 40 acres of privately owned vineyards and another 60 acres of cooperative vineyards.
